Vapor Intrusion

VAPOR INTRUSION

Vapor Intrusion is the migration of volatile chemicals from the soil into overlying buildings.  Volatile chemicals may include volatile organic compounds (VOC's), select semivolatile organic compounds, and inorganic analytes such as mercury and hydrogen sulfide.  These contaminants travel on top or with the ground water and can easily become gases and migrate through the soil into a home or building.  The primary method for reducing VOC levels in buildings is active soil depressurization.

There are an extremely limited number of consultants that have the understanding of building science and soil gas mechanics to deliver the desired result.  Our affiliate Clean Vapor LLC has the expertise and equipment to provide solutions for the most challenging buildings.  In order to make sure that the remediation system works to it's maximum potential, preliminary diagnostic tests must be done.  Once the diagnostics are complete, Clean Vapor LLC can design a plan that will work best for your building.  Click HERE to visit Clean Vapor's website for more information.

Clean Vapor LLC specializes in:

  • Mitigation System Installation
  • Site Assessment
  • Under-slab Soil Characterization and Pressure Field Mapping
  • Contaminant Plume Delineation
  • Remedial Plan and Design
  • Vapor Extraction
  • Pre-construction Design and Installation

WHAT ARE VOC'S?

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) are man made chemical compounds such as industrial solvents, paint thinners, tetrachloroethylene (dry cleaning fluid) and by-products produced by chlorination in water treatment.  Most VOC contaminants are from leaky underground storage tanks at gas stations, or PCE from dry cleaners.
